Rotary Involvement
StoveTeam started as a single project of Eugene Southtowne Rotary in Oregon. It quickly outgrew what the club could manage directly and transitioned to an independent non-profit organization dedicated to providing fuel-efficient stoves to the world. But the organization's roots are in Rotary. StoveTeam has been profiled in the Rotarian Magazine and founder Nancy Sanford Hughes received Rotary's prestigious
"Service Above Self" award for her dedication to this mission.
If your Rotary club would like to do a worthwhile international project that directly impacts families and children in meaningful way, please consider a stove project with StoveTeam.
An Ecocina stove project delivers benefits in many ways:
- It reduces health problems such as burns and upper respiratory ailments.
- It reduces deforestation and environmental problems.
- It reduces the time and cost of collecting or buying firewood.
- It's easy to use and doesn't require resources not locally available.
- It's portable so it can easily be moved.
- It's sustainable. Stoves pay for themselves in a matter of months.
A stove factory creates jobs for both men and women, an important factor when unemployment sometimes exceeds 50%.
Here are three ways you can get involved:
Sponsor
Either start a new International Matching Grant or participate with other clubs who are looking for grant partners. We can assist with writing the grant and we have sample grants for both
Pilot:
Sample Rotary Matching Grant - Pilot District (60 KB)
And Non-Pilot grants:
Sample Rotary Matching Grant - Non-pilot (202 KB)
If your Rotary club would like to participate in a current international grant, we can help you support an existing project.
Fundraise
Donate to StoveTeam International. Whether it's helping construct a new factory or to purchase stoves, we'll direct the funds to where they are needed or to the country, area or factory you specify.
Volunteer
Join a StoveTeam trip to help build a factory. Many Rotarians, their families and friends enjoy getting involved with the actual construction…an old fashioned "boots on the ground" Rotary project.
Please contact us today about how your club can be involved. We'd love to have your club be a member of our team.
